Roll forming is a continuous bending operation, performed at room temperature, in which sheet or strip metal is transformed along a linear axis.

Through a series of progressive stages, tandem sets of rolls (known as roll stations) shape the metal stock until the desired cross-sectional configuration is obtained.

The photo below shows our newest roll forming machine, featuring twelve forming stations, which enables the fabrication of custom rolled shapes of great intricacy and complexity.

The raw stock to be rolled can have a width of up to 36" and a maximum thickness of .250".

Tooling

United Roll Forming houses a fully-equipped machine shop. We've developed our own tooling which provides you with the opportunity to order our standard shapes in any size, amount and type of metal. Through our tool and die shop, custom machining and metal fabrication stamping dies are available.

Punching

Holes or slots that would be incredibly difficult to add because of their lovation or features as a secondary operation are easily pre punched in-line with roll forming processes.

Bending

With roll forming, the channel and side sweep are formed in one process. No secondary bending is needed.

Roll forming offers these advantages over competing processes:

• Cold roll formed shapes offer superior surface finish. The absence of processing marks on hte material often eliminate the need for additional finishing.

• Hollow or semi-hollow shapes can be produced with thinner walls.

• Sharp clean contours are maintained.

• Roll forming materials generally have a strength advantage in structural rigidity applications.

• Roll formed parts are made much faster which reduces the cost per piece.

• Sub-assembly and fabrication costs are eliminated, making the process very cost effective.
